As Allied Supreme Commander during World War II, Dwight
David Eisenhower (1890-1969) won America's greatest twentieth-century victories;
later, as President of the United States (1953-61), he maintained a healthy
economy while coping with the challenges of the Cold War. This mini-edition
contains documents written early in 1951, when Eisenhower had been recalled
to active duty in an attempt to forestall a threatened Soviet invasion
of Western Europe.
